Description
Without a doubt, one of the greatest requirements among today’s players and coaches in football is the long-term development of footballers and how to improve Speed and Explosiveness. Football Speed and quickness are skills that can be taught and not just something you were born with. Footballers now need to be faster, fitter and stronger to be able to play the game at an elite level. The game has changed extensively over the past 10 years.
- The pressing game is now both individual and team-based.
- It is taking place higher up the field and with higher frequency.
- Repeated Sprinting efforts are higher, with the statistics showing that the number of higher-intensity sprints is increasing in both the volume of repetition, but speed levels have also increased.
- Focusing only on straight-line sprinting does not reflect the demands of a competitive game or a competitive training session.
- Footballers are not sprinters. They need to have the ability and capacity to repetitively:
o Accelerate
o Decelerate
o React and change direction at speed.
o Maintain multiple sprints without recovery.
Reaching Maximal speed in a game is not of vital importance. They need to have both anaerobic and aerobic capacity to perform. The training sessions at elite level should reflect a progressive plan:
- Repeatedly perform high-intensity sprints
- Multidirectional movements
- To last 90 minutes
- With technical ability
- With movement quality
- With and without the ball
- With durability & strength
What we coach
We use information from elite-level academies and professional game data, and we develop training and coaching sessions that will improve both the generic requirements of football speed but also the specific requirements of the individuals. Our individual and small group sessions are structured by age group and ability.
The first thing we do is test the different elements of Football Speed, Quickness, Explosiveness, Active Speed and Reactive speed. We then begin re-education by coaching, athletic ability, technical ability, and movement quality with and without the ball at speed.
- Quick Feet & Explosiveness
- First 3 steps to the ball
- Turning Ability
- Jumping Ability
- Change of Direction with and without the ball
- Speed 5, 10 & 20 Metres
- Maximum Speed Over 40 Metres.
The sessions are progressive from low to high level and medium to high intensity and we give the players homework of Speed- Off-Season and Pre-Season Speed and Explosiveness
Age groups: 9 years to 16 years.
